Questions
How do I add GST to a price?
GST = price × rate ÷ 100, and the total is the price plus GST. ₹1,000 at 18% is ₹180 GST, ₹1,180 in all.
How do I take GST out of an inclusive price?
Taxable value = inclusive price × 100 ÷ (100 + rate). ₹1,180 at 18% is ₹1,000 taxable value and ₹180 GST.
When is it CGST + SGST and when IGST?
When the place of supply is in the seller's own State it is intra-State: half CGST, half SGST (UTGST in some Union territories). When it is in another State it is IGST (IGST Act, sections 7 and 8).
Which GST rates apply now?
From 22 September 2025 the main rates are 5% and 18%, with 40% for a short list of luxury and sin goods; 12% and 28% were removed except for tobacco and pan masala for now (56th GST Council, PIB release of 3 September 2025). Special rates such as 0.25% and 3% continue.
